These are the colors that I am currently using , I have been known to change my pallete colors around a bit . This however is a very good working pallete ,capable of a very wide range of mixes and is suitable for beginners to advanced painters needs.
If it is in your budget , try to obtain artist quality pigments
Solvent
Odorless Mineral Spirits
no turpentine , turpenoid or paint thinner
Medium
1 part stand oil
1 part varnish
5 parts mineral spirits
If sensitivity is an issue , you can substitute Walnut Oil for solvent and medium. Spectrum Walnut Oil available at feel Rite Health food or Wegmans. Is also great on salad when lunch time comes.
Disposable shop towels (blue scott shop towels) or equal
try to avoid paper towels as they are not very absorbent and soon fall apart
Brushes
Whatever brushes you feel comfortable with that suit your temperament and budget.
I use both flats and rounds of various sizes . Hogs hair to sable.
Canvas
I have tried many different supports through the years , and have taken the best qualities of them all and put them into my own panels. In fact,
Due to the demand from other artists and students I have started manufacturing artist grade canvas panels and am making them available .
They are a smooth texture triple primed canvas mounted archivally to a rigid wood composite panel. And are acid free.
The web site is under construction but I am setting up a temporary blog site where they can be purchased.
Dailypaintingpanels.blogspot.com will get you there.
Pallette
I prefer to use a wooden pallette that is well seasoned and has turned to a nice grayish brown which helps in accurate judging of values when mixing paint.
Trying to mix and accurately achieve the correct value against a stark white mixing area is much more difficult, so no tear off pallettes!
See you at the workshop!
